About Me

“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change” - Carl Rogers.

Before I trained as a counsellor I spent many years working with children within education and care, this included extensive experience helping to support children with varied special needs and physical disabilities. During some of this work I specialised in one to one sessional work with children to support their emotional needs, seeing the great benefit of this work and the impact it had on the children I became very interested in interpersonal skills and helping people through active listening and empathy.

Through my long journey of training, as well as the academic aspects of this level of qualification there was an immense task of self development. Previous to this point I had struggled with my self-esteem and kept myself in my comfort zone of limited expectations through my fear of not being good enough and of failing. Through my own therapy and my ability to push through the fear and understand my own process I feel I have a really good understanding of how some people are feeling when they come for therapy.

As well as my private practice I offer counselling in a Family Support Centre, this work is very varied and extremely rewarding and compliments my private practice very well.

I also work in a school/college for students with physical and learning disabilities and have experience counselling people who have speech and language problems and I welcome anyone with these issues. I also have experience working with young people in assisted housing schemes.
